CUSTOMER QUESTIONS
Q1: Can 2 of these be put together to make one?
No all you can do is clamp them together with clamps and cover. Doesn't have the hardware to connect extra poles to the existing hardware
Q2: Can I buy just the frame?
No it is a package
Q3: Can a 6H x 4W x 6D chicken coop fit under it?
It would fit under it but the chicken wire wouldn't go on. Remember it's a curved top, so it isn't 6 ft all the way only in the center of the curve.
Q4: Can a rabbit, raccoon, dog or cat chew or scratch through the wire mesh? Thank you!!
We built two of our own. the first is a 10x10 dog kennel that we covered with chicken wire and made a top out of welded fence wire. our other one is a RV canvas cover pipe frame. We used to use it to store hay. took canvas off, lowered it down some, covered with chainlink we got from facebook marketplace and then put chicken-wire over that. you'd have to fabricate a door (we used old chain link fence sections on the ends. Look on facebook marketplace, and like the person said, you want to run the chicken wire out 2-3 feet at base of run. Yes, especially a raccoon. You'll want to reinforce it with 19ga hardware cloth if you want it predator proof, as well as running it out about 3' on the ground around the run (or burying it 1' down). It’s just coated chicken wire, so I’m not sure. I’ve had more issues with my chickens pulling on it and loosening the spots I didn’t secure very well. Probably, we secured it with extra wire fencing around it. It is a great base though for the price!
Q5: Can the whole structure be moved around periodically like a chicken tractor or does it need to be permanent?
It does not have to be permanent…we have moved ours twice and have had no issues , it is plenty of room for the flock size we have of 13. With two people this cage can be moved very easily Moveable, however I am using it as a garden with deer fence Yes, since it’s held in place with stakes, you can pick up and move it
Q6: Can you purchase extra tarps for this coop? One is already ripping and i am not finding one that will fit this perfectly.
I myself purchased a heavy tarp from the store I knew the one that came with it wouldn’t survive long we did purchase one from our local Tractor Supply store and it is slightly bigger than the one that came with it
Q7: Does it include chicken wire mesh?
Yes it does. There's also a little extra left over. Yes
Q8: Guage wire? Hole size? I have raccoons nearby
It's standard chicken wire fencing, metal. Raccoons will not be able to get through but rats can
Q9: Has the company improved the wire?
Yes it is very nice and sturdy |
Q10: How big are the holes for for the wirer fencing?
Slightly wider than a quarter. It's hexagon design. Quarter is correct height of holes. The chicken wire is a standard size, does come with a green coating over it. Definitely would reinforce with stronger wire. They are the same size as standard chicken wire but the wire is coated. It looks like an inch.
Q11: How do you connect the b pole in the back??
there is a coupling that was provided for you to put around the top and that pole and then screw tight I've asked the company and did not receive an answer. I attached it with the coupling they include, but it's clearly off-center and slides around. Seems wrong, but I made it work. I suggested they include a piece that is stationary and has a hole to fix the coupling.
Q12: If u put a tarp across the whole top can it hold the weight of snow?
I would say no. I live in Michigan and my chickens love the snow. There's no real structure other than the plastic netting that goes over the pen. I would say that's more for rain than anything I mean maybe a light dusting of snow sure, but I definitely wouldn’t let more then half an inch of snow build up on it
Q13: Is the water/UV cover removable?
Yes it is removable it is attached with bungee cords
Q14: Is there wire on the bottom of the floor also?
It does not come with enough for the bottom, but we did add our own. We only used what they provided on the overhead areas and then covered it with a tarp. For chickens you will want sturdier wire with smaller openings on the sides and floor. No I added it 30 inches wide around the interior floor and covered with dirt. Door is narrow is my only issue. No there is not
Q15: The existing lock seems insecure. What type of lock have others installed?
It does seem that way, but it has worked for us. It has to be opened just right. We don't have any real threats to our chickens though, at least not yet. We attached a bungee to keep the door secure when closed.
Q16: What gauge is the chicken wire?
First of all it’s very easy to work with. It is not the silver chicken wire like you buy at Tractor Supply. It’s a green lite weight wire and definitely strong enough for chickens and to keep predators out.
Q17: What is the frame pipe size?
I think maybe an inch. They aren't thick pipes, they just snap together. But it's working great for my chickens. 1 inch
Q18: Will cats or other animals be able to get in this cage
The wire supplied with the enclosure is very thin gauge. We had something rip the wire and get in cage. Luckily we didn’t have any chickens in it yet. We bought hardware cloth 1/4” square by 36” tall and wrapped the entire unit. It’s a lot more secure now. They probably could get in if they really tried but it does come with stakes to stake it down. But what I did to help detour that is, when I ran the fence down I ran it a little extra long so I could keep the fence down too. Not if you built it right and set it up on flat grounds with the anchors in.
Q19: how do you hook the back pole to the top curved piece with the center top support?
The upright in the back of the unit will be a little off set at the top to the side of the center at the top. No way around it. You put the curved section through the top part of the clamp. It doesn't line up exactly. But it isnt off by much. I feel like they could have used a different kind of clamp for that connection.
Q20: how much snow could this take? Im in New england and get a fair amount of it!
Not much. Not sturdy enough for a heavy snow Not much. It’s not designed to be load bearing. It’s designed to keep chickens “In” and not predators “ out”. We are in Montana and it hasn’t been through winter yet but hopefully where it is placed it will do just fine.
Q21: is the wire mesh galvanized?
Yes, it’s coated well and will not rust I’m not sure but it is coated.
